Contract expired but cancellation fee wanted

My wifes Virgin Active Contract was taken in May 2011 for a commitment period of 12 months. 3 weeks ago my wife wanted to cancel her membership and a cancellation fee was requested. From the contract it clearly states that the contract goes into a month to month basis once the commitment period ends and a 20 day notice is required. What Virgin Active wants is completely against the Consumer Protection act and against my rights.

From all the posts on hellopeter it is clear that Virgin Active is regularly disregarding the rights of consumers.

This is totally unacceptable and i want this cleared up and my contract cancelled.
