COMMISION BASED SALES

I arrived at the store, looking for a dvd player. approached a salesman to ask which dvd player is compatible with reading of my Hard Drive. he shows me just one and walks away.
puzzled, i start looking at others out of interest and seen that there was also another 1 that is compatible. i took both to the till to ask for prices, and it so happens that the teller calls the same salesman, Alfred, to assist me. seeing me at the till he remarks: oh i didn know u were talking one. astonished i replied: well if i didnt want one i wouldnt have asked.
he insists i should take the one he suggested.
as the teller rings the item he calls out his commision code, which annoyed me, since he was of no help to me.

when i arrive home, i seen that the dvd palyer is HDMI supported only, and that it doesnt work on my tv. upset i returned to the store a few days later to return it.

is it not the duty of the salesmen to ask relevant questions before selling a product to a customer? if he was helpful and friendly, i guess it wouldnt have led to me purchasing something utterly useless to me.
