Breaks before it gets home

Bought a gift for wedding this morning at Canal walk branch - beautiful looking 3- compartment large serving dish (made in China). After purchase my sister in law and I stopped for coffee in Canal walk and placed packet resting up against leg of table (due to size could not place it flat). It had been bubble wrapped loosely by store. It slipped down gently onto floor (no distance) and cracked badly across the center of the plate. It was not dropped or mishandled in any way. Shocking quality which would not stand up to life in kitchens with a granite surface. Store would not replace it, said incident had occurred outside of the premises. Very unhappy that such poor quality and customer service is being upheld
