Milk gets rotten 4 days before expiry date

On Wednesday the 20th of March, we bought two bottles of clover milk (2 liter). Expiry date, 26/03/2013. Upon opening the second bottle this morning, it was already sour. How can this happen? It was bought at the Highlands Spar in Lyttelton, Centurion.
