Won't give me a refund

I bought a pond pump on the 15 Dec 2012. It had a 2 year warranty and I paid R469. I extended the cable as the supplier didn't even give me a meter to work with. the pump stopped working by the 11 jan 2013. I dried it out. Put it back in the box with the slip so I could return it when I am next at the shop. I took it in today. I was told to wait for the supervisor. When he arrived said that my request for a refund is not possible as I took the plug off and the supplier wouldn't except it back so I have no claim. I told him that it is within 6 months and the pump has a 2 year warranty. He called the store manager Gary Davidson. He told me that he understood my frustration but it will have to be sent back to the supplier who will decide if they are prepared to replace. I said that it was within the 6 month period and that I as the customer could request a refund, repair or replacement. He said that he understood the CPA and that what I am saying is not correct and can't receive a refund or in store replacement as it was not up to him to make that decision. He said the only thing he can do is take it from me give me a receipt for goods and be in contact with me. Which he did. HELP
