Pick 'n Pay
Staff Handling Food with Bare Hands

Shops, Products, Services

Hi,

I went to Pick 'n Pay on Nicol this morning and bought a sandwich for work from the food counter. Whilst I was being served by one lady, another was dishing out crumbed chicken breasts and strips into a bowl in the display counter. She was using her BARE HANDS. I commented to her that she should be wearing gloves, to which she responded that she doesn't have to and that she had washed her hands.

I am not a health inspector, but I am fairly certain that people handling food are required to wear gloves when handling food, clean hands or not!!!

I did inform a manager who was going to check it out. I do not doubt that this was carried out & handled in the appropriate manner. What concerns me is:
- Was the employee merely flouting the rules. If this is what they do in plain sight of the customer, what are they doing out of sight of the customer? In which case, this employee should receive a formal warning and undergo disciplinary action.
- Are PnP staff not compliant with training and regulations? If so, PnP need to take responsibility and ensure staff are correctly trained and controls be put in place.

I do not feel that merely notifying management is enough.

Concerned Cust!!!
