Washing pegs ruin clothing

About three weeks ago, we bought two packs of washing pegs from Pep, Lyttelton. The quality is so bad, that the metal started rusting within the first few uses. Needless to say, our clothes are permanently damaged from these pegs. Expensive white shirts now have unsightly rust stains. Even colored clothing has these stains on. What quality metal is used that rusts so quickly?!!!
