Return Policy Flawed

I purchased a pair of Adidas running shoes at Markham on the 26th of January 2014. On first fitting the shoes all seemed fine. However, as soon as I wore the shoes for the first time I started developing blisters on the sides of my foot. I only wore the shoes once.

When I tried returning the shoes a week later, having only worn them for 1 hour. The assistant at the store tells me that their return policy stated that the shoes can only be returned if they had never been worn. I only developed blisters after actually wearing the shoes.

I feel that their policy is completely unfair! I have been with Markham for years and have never returned anything bar this time. I feel that they should allow for exceptions to their policy.
