Edgars
Nokia 206 factory fault

Shops, Products, Services

We purchased two Nokia 206 phones from Edgars, Blue Route on 23rd Dec 2013 as Xmas gifts for our parents. One of the phones gave us problems from the beginning. On 30th Dec we took it into MTN Blue Route as we could not get the Whatsapp to work and this was the main reason we purchased this model phone. They told us how to activate the Whatsapp service. We tried but to no avail. As this unfortunately occurred over the holiday period, the earliest we could take the phone in again was 6th Jan 2014. MTN tried but eventually said there was a problem with the settings. The handset then went into Edgars, Kenilworth Centre on 8th Jan 2014 and we were told it could not be replaced as the 7 day return policy had expired. It was sent for repairs and would take 3 weeks. How were we to know that there was a factory fault with the phone? It would have been impossible to detect a fault within 7 days when we couldn't get the phone to work. On 31 Jan the phone was still not ready. I think this is shocking service for a huge retailer like Edgars and the 7 day return policy should not apply in this instance. A replacement handset should have been offered as soon as the fault was detected.
