Exchanging a pair of shoes for another size

I went into edgars pavilion on saturday 1st of february 2014 to exchange a pair of shoes I received as a gift, I waited 20min in the line as there was just 1 teller and a lot of customers waiting as well, when I finally get to the teller he tells me I can't exchange for size as I don't have a reciept or a gift reciept I was rudely told to contact the person who gave me the gift and ask for their account number, that is appalling how do I person who gifted me something and ask that, furthermore the shoes were a size 3 but the ticketing on the box says size 4! All I wanted was to exchange for the correct size. I was appalled by their service firstly cashiers should check if shoe size in the box is the same as the ticketing, by right I should have been allowed to exchange for size I didn't want a refund and it was rude to be told to contact the person who gifted it to me! I was a loyal customer to edgars but this incident has just put me off, no wonder edcon is doing so bad! I am mad as as I'm now sitting with a pair of shoes I can't use!! Terrible customer service!
