Store closes at 8pm cash up at 6pm???

On Friday the 1st February, It was just before 6 and my mother in law wanted wrapping paper. We got to the cashier and all but 1 were cashing up on both sides of the shop! The one that was helping took 20mins to help the customer in front of us - and about 10 people waiting behind us. When we asked someone why; they just ignored us, we asked for the manager, but just got "grunted" at, and that was after we had finished paying. and we had to go find her. All she could say was sorry, but offers no resolutions. And as leaving the shop there were more staff repacking shelves then there were cashiers on duty. How is this possible!! This store only closes at 8PM on a friday!
