Pathetic service from the superviso

I went into Pick 'n Pay on saturday to buy 2 items and proceeded to the express till to pay. I found and old lady there who had bought a newspaper and wanted to take out money. The transaction had failed as she opted to pay for the newspaper by cash and the cashier Kashieka (sp) called supervisor Lorraine to override the transaction. A lady came behind me and I heard her tell the cashier the queue was too long at the till she went to, I then concluded that the lady had been waiting but grew impatient and went to go try pay at another till. The lady demanded she pay before me as she had been there before and the supervisor gave Kashieka a nod as all 3 of them chatted away in afrikaans and she billed her items. I left my items at the till and went to Clicks. What I don't understand is how can a customer leave the till and go try pay at another till and then come back and get first preference if there's someone already in the queue? I would understand had I found her there and she said she was going to grab something and came back but she was not even there when I got to the till. How does that work and why is the supervisor Lorraine so unproffessional?
