Damaged item and ridiculous service

We went to the Menlyn House & Home branch on Friday evening and ordered a chest of drawers for delivery. The item arrived on Saturday, but one of the handles on one of the drawers had no thread in its and kept falling out, and another handle was missing.

We reported the problem to the store, and were asked to bring back the drawer. We received a new drawer, but upon getting home found that it would not fit in our chest.

I phoned again this morning to ask if we could swap back for the drawer we took in yesterday, and possibly just get a new set of handles.

We were told this morning that we will have to bring back the entire chest of drawers.

I don't understand how a supposedly brand new item left the store in a defective state, or how while yesterday it was possible to exchange a drawer, we must now exchange the entire chest.

My fiancee is currently moving in, and I purchased the chest to create more space for her things. It is a difficult and stressful time for us, and now in stead of being able to provider her space, I am left with a defective item and a headache to get it back to the store.

All I want is my drawer back, and the handle, I'll find my own set of screws.
