Bad system or uninformed personnel?

I bought a toy from CNA for the amount of R249. (This went up from R199 in the past month or two since I saw the toy for the first time!) I asked them to use my loyalty points in this transaction. When I had to sign the slip, the price on the system was R299. I asked them to refund me for the R50 that I was over charged. Their response was that I would lose all my loyalty points should they refund me or cancel the transaction. Did I end up paying R50 more for the toy because of uninformed/trained personnel or a bad system?
