Defy twin tub drain pump too small for normal use

Shops, Products, Services

October 2013, bought new Defy Twinmaid for R1900.
A week later drain pump stopped pumping. Emptied machine from rear pump cover in garden. I found the pump is so small it was blocked by a 10 cent coin only 16 mm diameter.
It has blocked again today. Reason - no filter or trap fitted to stop tiny objects from being sucked into the pump. Defy will charge a call out fee even under guarantee if the blockage is what they deem a foreign object.
The evidence indicates to me that the machine pump blockages will be frequent.
The evidence is 1. There is no object trap or filter between the pump and wash tub as is reasonable.
2. The size of pump is only 16 mm inside diameter. Without a trap, and fitted with such a small pump, blockage and hence chargeable call outs are almost assured. 16 mm is not large.
The odd button or coin finding its way into the tub is normal during washing, and I expected that the machine to be designed accordingly. I conclude, having never experienced this problem before with washing machines for 39 years, that it is at the least a design flaw. Defy refused a modification and the machine will now have to be replaced with another make, being unfit for my purpose.
