Turns away pensione

I went to pick n pay to collect my pension (03/12/13) was turned away saying if I didn't collect my pension on the 1st dec I couldn't get it. It's the 3rd day of the new month, surely I can still collect it?! I couldn't make it on the first. What if for some reason an emergency happened and someone isn't available to collect if the first day of the month? Does that mean they not entitled to their pension. It's not like I'm coming mid month to collect!! Teller refused to help me! Turn me away saying nothing can be done! Bad customer service.
