Poor service with regard to opening up an account

About two months ago I applied for an account at Markhams. I previously got a preapproved letter to open up an account at TFG. Being a student, I did not have time for this, and thought I would do this now- while I'm on vac. I never heard anything from Markhams for about 5 weeks, after which I personally went to the shop in order to enquire about what's happening with my account application. Staff members had no idea what's happening with my account application and called headquarters. They too had no idea about the whereabouts of my application form. The staff member then searched a pile of forms and found my one, and told me that she will fax it away again- she then told me it would about 3 days to hear whether or not my account was accepted/ declined. 2 weeks later, still no notifications and again I personally went into the shop- only to find a similar situation as the first time. The staff member again called headquarters and after a short conversation the staff member was told that my account was declined. She was told because of my background and record. This thoroughly confused me, as I was preapproved and have a good student credit record.
