Why Stamp it checked when you haven't checked?

I purchased a lovely glass decanter set that i intended gifting over Christmas and whilst i was paying for the item, the cashier stamped my receipt saying goods checked. I mentioned that she is stamping a receipt without checking the purchased item and to my surprise, she replied with "we pack our products very well."

I went home to wrap the gift which was to be couriered internationally and thought to check the item myself. True to form, the item was broken and now I am left with the inconvenience of having to return the item for a new one and was forced to change the shipping date for the courier all because the staff in this shop are too useless to do their jobs properly!
