Bad attitude amidst flies

Yesterday between 13:00 and 13:30 a colleague and I went to Shoprite to get bread rolls. We noticed they had a topping of flies and when we brought this to the attention of the male staff member, he responded by saying that we can go anywhere and will find that there is no home or building that does not have flies. We were appalled and mention hygiene to him and in response got laughter from the female staff member. They felt we were being fussy and when we mentioned that this was unfortunately not their home and that they should ensure our health at all times, the male said that it was his home and he would run it how he saw fit.
The fact that it was not just a random fly but a nation of them and that the staff members were not bothered at all made me wonder if Shoprite ever gets visits from health inspectors and what else goes on in their kitchen that could possibly be to the detriment of our health.
Nauseating.
