Truworths won't exchange broken bottle of perfume

I bought a gift pack of Bulgari perfume as suggested by store assistant. When I got home, I opened the gift box and the large glass bottle was cracked. I returned the gift pack to Truworths requesting an exchange. Was told they will not as I had probably dropped the bottle myself - in front of other customers - I argued that I would not do that as I am not a dishonest person. Was told that they knew it was me, as they check each and every bottle that they sell - "It's company policy". Yeah right. So is every bottle checked on every shelf twice a day? What happens if a customer drops a box in the store and puts it back on the shelf? Most of the time Truworths staff are huddled in packs making social chit chat anyway. Be that as it may, how then, do they check the individual bottles that are wrapped and sealed in plastic covers? Truworths staff must have xray eyes if this is standard practice. Have been a Truworths account holder since forever. Not for much longer. The whole experience of being accused by them of being dishonest has left a horrible taste in my mouth. I am not a "serial purchases returner" either. My account would show that! Shocking!
