Camera warranty during the first year

The Cannon SX50HS was handed in after having lens problems where the lens was jamming on the 3/11/2013 it was purchased on 11/11/2012. My wife has always been a Nikon fan but she was convinced that this camera was a better option. We have been phoning since the 14/11/2013 to find out what is happening regarding the warranty repairs to date no response. The last two days I have spoken to Herman and he always assures us that he will phone back and to date no feedback. It is my understanding that if the camera has mechanical problems it is to be replaced with a new one.
My wife uses the camera for business and has been unable to perform her obligations to her major client for the last16 Days.
For the past six years she has been an avid fan of Nikon never having ever experienced any problems with the cameras she has had during that period.
