Foschini refuses to exchange clothes

Good day,
I went to exchange an item of clothing twice, but I'm still stuck with it. I don't have a slip because it was a gift, but the item still has its Foschini price tag attached to it. The first time I went to exchange there was no one who could authorise it, and the next time Friday, 8 November the person in charge did not want to authorise it. My mother (who lives 400km's away) bought it on her account, and I explained that I could give them her account number, but they insisted I get the card from her and that I only have a month from date of purchase to do so. The exact same thing happened to me before at Woolworths and Legit, where they had no issue exchanging the items without a slip, they only requested that I take something else to the same value or more. The two ladies who "helped" me at Foschini's did not offer any solution, and were so unfriendly that they should not work with people at all, they could not manage one smile! Every time I walk out of that store I'm in a bad mood. Please advise if there is another way, or if I should dump the thing in the trash?
