I received a letter from Edgars 17/09/2013 re Edcon sold its credit book to ABSA 31/10/2012 but were unable to sell my account due to "insufficient information etc" & they will be closing my account on 31/01/2014! They said that I could reapply for a new account then! This letter has clearly been sent to many of their customers who are senior citizens and/or people who purchase carefully & avoid excessive interest!
I was extremely upset for the following reasons:
- I have shopped at Edgars for many years & received a Store Card 24 years ago.
- I have never defaulted on my payments.
- I purchased my present property through Absa early in 1990 and have been living here ever since, my telephone has not changed so in all that time why did they not contact me re this "insufficient information etc"?
- I spent many hours phoning Customer Care & Accounts & I was not able to reach anyone in authority.
If my account is closed Jan 2014 I will not be reapplying for a new account, I will do my shopping elsewhere.
I found this situation extremely insulting & discriminatory.
