Lawyers letters for unsubstantiated balance

I have received a call from MBD Attorneys to say I owe Milady's money from 1995.?? They have no paperwork and when I asked them in March 2013 which is the first time I was ever contacted to supply me with proof, I received an email last night 16 Sept 2013 (7 months later) with a demand letter. I have now asked them what do they know about the statute of limitations and they make as if they cannot hear me? What are my rights and how can they do this? I do not believe I even ever had an account with them and I dispute this whole thing, but as they are collection lawyers they are intimidating us to pay without proof? Now today as well I receive an SMS to say they will give me 50% off if I pay before the end of September?
