Disappointed - No more rain checks?

I really enjoy the specials at checkers, e.g. Hey Days, Free deals and the usual month end promotions and recently I downloaded the eezi coupons app. If something is out of stock I usually get a rain check so that I can purchase the item when I go to checkers again. The branch refused to give me a rain check for Harvestime Peas and said that I should come again next week before the special ends. I live 20km away from my nearest branch so I can't visit checkers every week. It was the first time that I encountered this problem. Why have the rain checks been discontinued?
