Boots worn for the first time coming apart!

I h ad bought a pair of Soviet ankle boots and put them on today for the first time. Drove myself to work and to my horror, the top layer is peeling off! All this from not-so-cheap shoes?? Pity Soviet won't respond to this but my advice to anyone who sees this is: DO NOT BUY INTO LABELS! It might look good but this was a waste of few hundred rands and my time!
