Cellphone (Prepaid) purchase

Shops, Products, Services

I recently bought a Nokia Lumia 520. The advertisement stated the prepaid deal amount as R 1999, inclusive of a starter pack. However, I had to pay R 105 in addition for the starter pack. When I asked the sales lady why I have to pay for the "starter pack", she said it is for a new sim card, not a starter pack. Well, I paid and when I got home, compared the descriptions as per the barcode and the description as per the Vodacom packaging (starter pack). The (hi-fi corp) barcode stated "Vodacom Micro Sim Card", whereas the Vodacom label description stated "Prepaid Price Plan". Also, the barcode was sticked over the description of the starter pack, so that you as a customer would believe you are merely buying a sim card, and not an actual starter pack (even though supposed to be inclusive in the R1999). Further, I bought the phone in the validity period. On the same day as the purchase, I lodged my query using Hi-Fi Corp's internal online complaints system, and up till today, 16 August, heard nothing.

When an advertisement states that a starter pack is included in the price of the prepaid cell phone, why do you have to pay extra for the starter pack??
