Paid account but got handed ove

I have an account with Exact. I was behind with my account but paid my account up to date on the 26th February 2012 (R2000). Thereafter it showed I have available credit of R700.
When I wanted to use my card last week I was told it is in arrears, and have to pay an agency (DMC) handling fees (of R600). I called DMC and explained this to them and they said on their system it shows I need to pay R299.20 (reference 11019412) and this is due from the time my account was behind prior to 26 Feb 2012. No one at Exact could tell me this. I now paid it as I want to close the account. I go to Exact to ask them to close it and they say I need to call a call centre. Also, because I was unaware of the handling fees etc. until now, I have a bad credit rating because of it.
