Browns The Diamond Store
Browns Jewellers, for a gift that keeps on costing

Shops, Products, Services

In 2008 we bought an 18 ct wedding ring from Browns with 5 diamonds for R15000. In the first 2 years it had to be sent to Joburg twice for repairs to loose diamonds and a damaged claw. One of the faulty diamonds has now fallen out. Browns told us they would repair the ring and replace the diamond at no charge if the ring had not been abused. Once they had the ring they said 'It came into contact with a hard surface' and would cost R5550 to repair. When I challenged this they backtracked and dropped the repair price to R2750. They told me I'm supposed to send my ring to their workshop for a service once a year. Wendy Knowler the consumer journalist called this idea 'priceless' and they changed their tune again, saying I only need take my ring to the store for checking once a year. They know I have all-risks insurance so they dropped their repair price again, to R2000, 'in line with the insurance cover'. They are a cheap n nasty outfit trying every angle to score an extra buck. If there's no manufacturing fault with my ring then why do they offer to 'remake' and 'recondition' it? I have never had this problem with any of my other, much older jewellwery, not bought at Browns.
