KIRI CHEESE OFF BEFORE THE EXPIRY DATE

I bought a case of KIRI Cheese at Makro Edenvale. When we open some of the boxes the cheese was hard, crummy and smelt off. When checking the expiry date it says best before 09/08/2013. IT IS MAY 2013 and the cheese is off???
