Shocking customer service

I purchased 2 pairs of sheep skin slippers from Dis Chem over the weekend, the one pair's stitching is coming undone-clearly a manufacturing default - so i took them back to dischem today but took the wrong receipt - size 5 instead of the size 10 receipt. Dis Chem absolutely REFUSED to take them back as the size on the receipt was wrong even though they are exactly the same price and we were told that they would be throwing them away anyway. The assistant manager had the WORST attitude and was extremely rude! I am so appauled by the complete lack of customer service, and as a regular shopper at dischem i feel very disinclined to every go back!!!
