Poor customer service to exchange item

Bought a 2pack of 11-12 boys pyjama's at Edgars Eastgate last week. Got home to find out that the one pair of pants was size 8-9 and not 11-12 as the rest were. Went to exchange at Edgars Festival Mall which is closest to me. Customer Service and the Manager refused to exchange the item for other pyjama's size 11-12 due to the fact that the exchange I had to return, the pants size did not match the top so its an 'odd' pair. I've got the slip as proof of purchase. Told me I have to go to Eastgate to return, and I explained I hardly ever go there and being Edgars could they not just send it to their branch and do the exchange for me. The answer is no. I should have checked the pants size and so should the cashier that helped me. Do you ever see your cashier check each item you purchase to see if it matches in size? Especially when I had purchased a list of items at once. What if I bought the pyjamas in Durban I asked, to which there was no reply. Would I have to go all the way there again to exchange? What happened to customer service? Very disappointed that Edgars made no effort to assist. Now I have to get to Eastgate within 3 weeks before my refund expires.
