Lack of Choice - Channels

Recreation & Entertainment

In most countries you have the choice of which channels you want or options such as pay-per-view, but in South Africa we have none... and don't call Compact, Lite etc a choice, it is not! Why are we stuck with multiple news and reality channels and plenty of other channels that most of us has never bothered watching?

I know of nearly 30 people (and I am sure there are thousands more) that are seriously considering deactivating their DSTV's. I sent an email about a year ago, which I never received a reply to and a few months back I decided to phone the call centre. The operator told me "If you don't like what we are doing, you can go somewhere else" full knowing that we have no other option in South Africa. Nice eh?

I firmly believe that we the consumers should be allowed to choose our own channels. They can impose a minimum of 16 or 20 channels (they know the cost for each) and you pay based on the number of channels you chose and the cost of each. More people will stay with DSTV that way and more people will get DSTV then, as it will be more affordable then. With the cost of everything in the country escalating, DSTV will soon become a luxury few can afford. Time DSTV get real!
