Multichoice is No Choice

Recreation & Entertainment

We received an Email from the CEO of Mutichoice SA, Collins Khumalo, on 9 April 2013; it noted:
"... DStv Select will be discontinued... replaced by... DStv Family... we conducted extensive research and spoke to many DStv Select customers about the DStv Select pakages (sic). Following the feedback, we decided to launch DStv Family with a more relevant and appealing channel line-up."
Let's be grateful for small mercies; as the letter went on to say:
"As a current DStv Select customer, you have the option to move to DStv Family...(or)... you are more than welcome to stay on DStv Select."
The new line-up in the DSTV Family bouquet now excludes KykNet and SkyTV, two channels my wife and I watch often, and, as is the case with all the DSTV bouquets, contains a huge number of channels that we are not really interested in.
Our point being:
(1) The new option is not "more relevant and appealing" to us, we'll stay on "Select"
(2) "Mutichoice" decides for customers what they want; niche viewers don't count
(3) Is "Multichoice" prepared to publish the research referred to as justification in full
Either one pays R650 for the whole lot or you get "our choice"...
