Marlan Padayachee STRIKES AGAIN!!!

On 11 September 2013 my girlfriend and I responded to an advert on Gumtree for Marlan Padayachee's flat. We arranged to view the flat with Marlan the following day. After viewing the flat and discussing matters with my girlfriend, we contacted Marlan and met yet again. We met with Marlan and said that we would be willing to sign a 12 month lease if he was willing to make certain alterations to the bedroom and kitchen area. Marlan agreed and requested that we pay one months rental as a security deposit to show our commitment. I paid the deposit and both Marlan and I signed an agreement stating that he had received my money. One week later Marlan contacted me to inform me that the alterations were completed. I met with him to view the alterations and to my bitter disappointment little had been done. I informed Marlan I was unhappy and his response was "If you are not happy we can cancel the agreement but I am keeping your deposit". This is against the law and is in fact. I have made several attempts to meet with Marlan to collect my money but he refuses to meet and only responds to email. I want to warn anyone who wants to rent from Marlan and I will be taking this further!
