I purchased a Huawei Y73 on 07/05/2026 through PayJoy at MTN Centurion. When I got home, the phone was not working. All apps were locked, and the only accessible apps were for settings and calls. It also had restrictions. On the 8th, I went to the store to lodge a complaint. They just pressed the phone and told me there was nothing they could do.
On Saturday the 9th, I called the sales lady who assisted me, named Tiisetso, to inform her that the phone was not working. She said it could be the PayJoy app. I called again on Sunday the 10th while with the PayJoy sales lady, and she informed Tiisetso that it was not the PayJoy app.
On Monday the 11th, I went to the store again, and they called their agents. The phone was operating, but after I left the store, it stopped working. I returned to the store to show them that the phone was not working. I was told to leave the phone, but I explained that I couldn't because I didn't have a backup phone and needed my phone for work.
On Tuesday the 12th, I called the store and spoke to the manager, Prudence Mahlo. She said I must bring the phone to the store. At 12:00, she called me saying someone was coming to collect the phone. I called Tiisetso to ask where the person was, and I was told the person's name was Thabang, working for PayJoy. Thabang arrived at 15:10 and took the phone.
I had to call Thabang and Tiisetso for updates regarding the phone. Tiisetso didn't answer my calls. I went to the store again to collect the phone, but the apps were still locked. The ladies there said there was nothing they could do, even the guy from Huawei came, and he couldn't do anything. They said I should leave the phone, and they would book it in for assessment. I told them that I no longer need the phone and that I will be paying for something that is not working. They said for cancellation, I will have to wait for 30 working days, and the phone can only be taken back as cancellation within 7 days, including Saturday and Sunday.
I contacted Payjoy regarding the cancellation via WhatsApp, as I was given the number for WhatsApp. Payjoy says payment should be made as they will be sending updates to the credit bureaus.
I will be paying for something that is not working, and the service I received was bad because I am a black person.and I would be living the store very late
