Safety Issue - i20 Disk Brakes

Miscellaneous

The front disk pads on my i20 were replaced by Hyundai Midrand at 58000km.
At 75000km Hyundai serviced the car and the brakes seemed fine.
At 90000km I opted to service the car myself as I was not prepared to pay R4500 for a service.
On inspection of the front pads the outer pads were about half warn and the inner pads were almost warn to the metal. This was due to the brake caliper slide pins that seized. Both slide pins left and right, at more or less the same time. Rubber dust covers fully intact.

The cause can only be:
1. Inferior workmanship when the pads was replaced by Hyundai. (Most likely)
2. Serious design flaw on the calipers (or both).

Took the car back to Hyundai. They could not solve the problem and quoted /- R5000 per caliper as the car was no longer under warranty and failing to accept any responsibility. Needless to say this was expected.

The bigger concern for me however is that the calipers had to fail shortly after the 75000km service (my logic). Meaning that my wife and kids have driven for /- 15000km with inferior brakes.

Fact is the calipers should never have failed due to the direct safety implications as it was still under Hyundai service at the time.
