Thyssenkrupp
Delayed Installation of lift in block of flats

Miscellaneous

Thyssenkrupp (TK) commenced with installation of a new lift at Michele Flats Amanzimtoti on 16 July 2012. Expected time of delivery was 7 weeks (3 September 2012). Flats have elderly residents who need regular doctors visits & wheelchair resident who cannot get out except by using the lift. After numerous calls to their management, we were informed In Dec '12 that the lift could be used and that they would attend to the various outstanding problems. We were told to contact their call centre if problems occurred. It has been very traumatic for residents as there have been many people stuck in lift since then. When there are 4 people in the lift and one stands at the back of the lift, the cabin scrapes against the wall of the shaft between the 3rd & 4th floors. Lift door often fails to open or close & residents are afraid to use the lift. We have been unsuccesful in our attempt in resolving these issues. On Thursday the Directors met with the Regional Manager of KZN with no success. A message was also left for the CEO to contact us. We need a committment from TK to finalise this installation and hand over a lift that works consistently and reliably.
