Lift full of boxes

I went to Edgars on Tuesday with my six week old baby sleeping in her pram. I asked if there is a lift to get to the second floor where the baby clothes are. I was told to wait at the lift in the storage area and they would send down the lift for me. (The buttons to call the lift are broken down stairs)

After waiting for 5 minutes I went and asked someone else if there was something wrong with the lift and she said no, I should just go wait some more she would send it down for me.

5 minutes later the first person who said he would send down the lift came and told me I could not use the lift as it was full of boxes but if I would take my baby out of the pram and carry her up the escalator he would push my pram up. I told him my baby was sleeping and I was not going to wake her just to go upstairs.

I mentioned this incident in my mothers and baby class and all the moms there said they had experienced the same problem with the lift. One said she no longer shopped there because of it, another said her husband stayed down stairs with the baby so she could shop upstairs and another said she took her baby up the escalator in its pram but that it is very scary going down again.
