Poor organisation at registration of walkathon

I booked online for my partner and I for the Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon early October & my sister booked even earlier. On Saturday 26 October we drove to the designated venue to pick up our race numbers as well as our goodie bags & T shirts only to find that there were no more left. Apparently the volunteers assisting with the registration process were not given clear instructions about only giving to those individuals who were amongst the first 18 000 to register & they had distributed the goodie bags & T shirts (that early respondents had specifically ordered in their size) to all & sundry. I was extremely disappointed and angry at the bad organisation & I was not the only one. In fact people were asking for refunds & some who had walked the walkathon for four years said they will not be doing it again. I think it is shocking that Avon Justine did not organise this extremely important beneficial event more professionally; are they not aware that this type of nonchalance only serves to taint a good cause with bad publicity. I suggest the organisers take time out to learn from the pro event organisers like Discovery to prevent any further reputational damage.
