Expiry of Gift Card

I received a gift card from GHDesigns Hair Studio in February this year after I had my hair done by one of their stylists.
The gift card does not have an expiry date printed on it nor was I told that there was an expiry date.
When I wanted to redeem the card on 7/7/2013 against the purchase of some products I was told that they cannot accept the card because it expired in April!
