Excessive Pricing by Retailers

Airwick Freshmatic Spray

I have used this product for many years in my home, but am appalled by the current pricing structure.
Initially, one buys the complete unit, that comprises an outer casing, an aerosol spray can that inserts in the casing and is powered by two AA batteries, which are also supplied. The casing also has a timing device which activates the spray at 9, 18 or 36 minute intervals as required.
My problem is that when the spray can is empty, the cost of the refill is between R55 and R59, which seems completely excessive when the whole unit price new is only R63. The difference between the two prices does not even cover the cost of the replacement batteries, let alone the casing.
The timer devices in the casing fail reghularly and I now have a mass of useless casings to throw away, each one representing a substantial loss.
I have contacted Messrs Reckitt Benckiser, the Manufacturers on their Customer Care Line and whilst they agree that the price differential is excessive, they state that they sell it to their Retailers at a fixed price, and thereafter have no control over the sales price.
Surely they would have a recommended sale price in the agreement?
