Sale of Boerie bike

In July last year my husband and I purchased a "boerie" bike from "Ronnie" which was advertised on gumtree. After various telephonic conversations and e-mails, I made an electronic fund transfer into an account specified by him to the value of R1800. We then asked him to keep the bike for us until we could make arrangements for transportation from Gauteng to the Western Cape. From then, we made regular calls just to check that all was still in order. In an e-mail to us, Ronnie stated that he had no reason to "bedonner" us and that our bike was safe and ready to come across when we were ready. In January 2013. We made a further cash deposit into his account of R400 to cover the transportation via train for the bike. We then spoke with Ronnie regularly to find out when he would take the bike to the train station and every day it was the same story. That he's been so busy and hasn't had time. It is now March and he is now not even answering our calls. We have sent various e-mails and even asked that if he does not have the bike anymore, that he should deposit the money into my husband's account. Still nothing! Very sad that one cannot trust people when asked to.
