March 2012 - In Rehab Faciility, following total hip replacement, received SMS: "Berkowitz - Pay overdue R485". Both the name and the billing were unknown to me, so I ignored it as erroneous, A few weeks later, a similarly curt SMS. I learned that Dr Berkowitz was head of a firm supplying medical appliances, etc. In the absence of a bill, I called them and was advised that I owed R485 for 'egg-shell mattress' ordered by Morningside Clinic. I had never received said mattress, and asked why, if the item was supplied to the Clinic, the Clinic was not billed. After all, the costs of my treatment had amounted to tens of thousands, all of which Discovery paid. I called the Clinic, which promised to look into the anomaly. I did not hear from them. But now there began a chapter of repeated SMS and telephone threats. I wrote to Dr Berkowitz and to the Clinic Administrator, requesting an e>planation - no reply, threats continued On 13 Oct, to get rid of them, I paid the R485 by EFT.
