Linmed Hospital Benoni
Wrong Diagnosis

My son (51) suffered a seizure a few weeks ago and was rushed by ambulance to the Linmed Hospital. Dr Mathebula called for an MRI, whereafter he stated that a clot was found in an aneurysm my son had had repaired 10 years ago. He declared a medical emergency and said my son needed to be admitted to ICU and would then need surgery. I asked for his diagnosis. Brain bleed he said, and proceeded to put the fear of God into us. Dr Mathebula was rude. I asked him to try and practice kindness, but he remained arrogant. The admissions clerk at ER, Poppie, was equally rude. What a horrible place! And what inferior calibre they employ!

Deposit demanded for ICU was R250k which would increase to R600 / R700k following surgery. Medical Insurance declined.

My son signed himself out (which made the good doctor even more arrogant and rude) and we went through the motions of seeing a Neuro Surgeon at Jhb Gen, who stated there was no danger of the clot escaping the coiled aneurysm and that surgery was definitely NOT necessary!!

The difference we experienced at the Jhb Gen, staff & N/Surgeon included, was so refreshing, chalk and cheese. Private Health Care is not what it used to be and the Hippocratic Oath has long since been buried in the anals of history! It's all about the money at the Linmed! Brain Surgery for R700k when it wasn't needed? Dr Mathebula should stick to his own GP lane, and not try to be a brain surgeon when he clearly knows zip about it!

I hope I never have to set foot at the Linmed again, being that it's 2km from where I live. I would much rather go to the Glynwood Hospital any day, and I speak from experience.
