Health & Medicine

17 yr old son went to casualty tonight - rash spreading over his body, same rash he had last night, it disappeared in the day & came back tonight. Lady dr on duty wanted to set up drip. Son refused any needles & called me, I am overseas. Dr & I spoke on phone, I advised of needle phobia, would she rather treat more conservatively. He was otherwise 100% fine, had same rash last night. Dr said we must sign form that we refused the drip, I said fine no issue we`ll sign. During this call, the nurses prepared the drip without patient consent. Dr then said to son `Go & see your GP in the morning` and left.
1. Nurses were instructed to prepare drip without patient consent, and have billed us - poor communication
Dr-Nurse we will not pay for this.
2. Why no topical ointment for pruritis relief, any oral antihistamine, oral corticosteroid? Request for conservative treatment, ie oral meds and ointment was made, but was completely ignored and not discussed.
3. I have medical background, if symptoms significant discuss professionally with patient and family, maybe suggest ward admission to observe overnight instead of drip, and run tests in morning.
Instead sent home with nothing.
