On the 22 October 2013, my mother-in-law was admitted as a patient at La Verna Hospital (Ladysmith). She was discharged on Saturday, 26 October 2013. She had suffered a series of strokes and due to a previous stroke years ago, she suffers from partial paralysis.
In this time, she was not assisted to bath or go to the toilet but had to struggle with her drip to relieve herself. She also indicated that a nurse had shouted at her as she was not able to straighten her leg when asked to do so.
I am appalled by this treatment of an elderly, invalid. The good care she received at the hands of her doctor is worlds apart from the negligence she suffered at the hands of nursing staff.
A patient in her condition should not be left at their own mercy to fend for themselves.
Having had my own dad hospitalized at St. Augustines Hospital and receive such compassionate, superior care, I am sorely disappointed. Upon her arrival at home, Pat expressed her relief to be home and nonchalantly cited the reasons above. As her family we take umbrage at this shoddy treatment.
I HAVE EMAILED THE LENMED GROUP ON THEIR WEBSITE AND HAVE NOT EVEN RECEIVED A COURTESY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.
