Need some help

Health & Medicine

My father is a member of Discovery Health and is on their top most plan. He recently (30 July 2013) had an amputation done. Thabiso from Discovery Health was the person who was doing the following up of my dad's medical bills. According to Discovery they allow you R30 000 (PMB) per limb amputated as well as a benefit called EMI which allows the member in my dad's case R51000.00. The quotation received was for R51 000. Now Discovery only approved the R30 000 PMB and they won't allow the R51 000 benefit for him to use, so now my dad will be liable for the difference of R21 000 which will be paid from his savings. I really think this is unacceptable as the benefits are there why can't he make use of it. We also signed a form from Discovery with Thabiso where it states that Discovery will help with all the costs to make the member mobile and to enable him to carry on with his life. I would like to know why can't Discovery give him the R30 000 out of PMB and the R21 000 from the EMI, and then there is no payment that needs to be made. My dad is a pensioner and doesn't have the finances to make the co payment so he has to then go without a prostethis.
