I've been with Bonitas medical aid for a year and 5 months. Since I joined this medical aid I have been struggling to get my chronic medication application approved. After numerous motivations sent through by my specialist and emails and phones calls by myself they have declined my application. Here's what really bothers me beyond the unhelpful staff, before I joined the scheme I had emailed Medscheme to enquire with them would my condition (Myasthenia Gravis) and medication be covered under the BONSAVE option and I received a reply advising me that it would be considered under the Bonsave or Standard plans I would need motivation from my specialist before an approval. I complied with this requirement and to my astonishment the rejection reason I received (via email not even a courtesy call to bother explaining) states that the application has been declined because my diagnosis is not covered on the plan that I am on. I have a life threatening disease which requires me to have this chronic medication 6 times a day for me to maintain my health. Without this medication I have extreme muscle weakness i am dependent on this medication and i expected more compassion, I am apalled!
