Over 45 years old and waiting periods

The person retired and had to move from her employer's medical aid provider to her own. She needs stents installed to restore circulation to her legs. The med aid informed that it is not their problem as the member must wait a minimum of 12 months before any hospitalization will be paid for, even if the legs need to be amputated.

This is a ripoff. If you are paying for medical aid and still have to use state facilities to get your treatment due to the medical schemes using underhanded tactics to take your money and not pay for services required then they are our pensioners of life sustaining services.

I feel that we should consult legal services to change this practice.
